An accessible museum
We believe everyone should be able to enjoy a ride on our historic trains.
On this page you’ll find information about the facilities we offer for wheelchair users, visitors with assistance dogs, and families with young children.

Wheelchair accessible
We are dedicated to providing maximum accessibility across our site and trains, without compromising the heritage features of our infrastructure and vehicles.
Our Maldegem station is fully accessible for wheelchair users. The platform has been fitted with a ramp, making it easy to reach the train.
Although our historic carriages have higher steps than modern trains, we offer a wheelchair lift to make getting on and off easier. Our friendly volunteers are always ready to assist you.
Unfortunately, our carriages themselves are not fully wheelchair accessible. Due to the narrow aisles, it isn’t possible to reach the seats with a wheelchair. However, wheelchair users are welcome to remain in the entrance area of the carriage, where space has been provided for a wheelchair. If you are able to take a few steps independently or with assistance, you are very welcome to take a seat on one of the benches.
Our volunteers are always on hand to offer help whenever needed.
At the station, you’ll find an accessible toilet, which can be reached using a removable wheelchair ramp.
We continue to work on improving accessibility wherever possible. While the heritage nature of our trains does present some limitations, we do our utmost to make every visit as enjoyable as possible.
Please don’t hesitate to contact us if you have any questions or require specific assistance.
Accessible for assistance dogs
Assistance dogs and companion dogs alike are always welcome with us. We’re delighted to welcome every visitor – and their faithful furry companions.
Water bowls are available on board our trains. Please feel free to ask a volunteer for a bowl for your dog.
Please note: the boarding height of our historic trains is higher than that of modern trains. Need a hand? Our volunteers are happy to help, and the wheelchair lift can also be used to bring your dog on board.
Inside the carriages, there is plenty of space between the benches for your dog to lie down comfortably during the journey. Out of respect for the historic nature of our carriages, we kindly ask that dogs are not allowed to sit on the benches.
Do you have any questions or special requirements regarding an assistance dog or pet during your visit? Please don’t hesitate to let us know – we’re happy to help.

Facilities for parents with young children
Our youngest visitors are very welcome too! Whether you’re visiting with a baby, toddler, or preschooler, we do our best to make your visit to Stoomtrein Maldegem-Eeklo comfortable and enjoyable.
At Maldegem station, there is a toilet with a changing table where you can comfortably change your little one. While there are toilets on the train carriages themselves, these are not equipped with changing facilities.
Unfortunately, pushchairs cannot fit through the narrow aisles of our historic carriages, but you are welcome to bring them on board. We’re happy to help you safely stow them in the entrance area of the carriage.
Do you have any questions or need a hand? Our volunteers are always ready to help.
