About us

At Stoomtrein Maldegem-Eeklo, we bring railway history to life. What began as the dream of a few enthusiasts in the 1980s has grown into Flanders’ largest heritage railway collection. Today, our steam and diesel trains once again run along part of the former line 58 between Maldegem and Eeklo – offering a unique experience for visitors of all ages.

Our organisation is run entirely by volunteers who dedicate their time and care to preserving and restoring historic railway equipment. From vintage locomotives to charming carriages – everything is lovingly maintained and brought back to life for rides and events.

In 2025, we received a special recognition: we are now officially recognised as an open heritage site. This means that we don’t just operate a railway – we preserve a piece of living heritage that is accessible to everyone.

At Stoomtrein Maldegem-Eeklo, visitors can not only ride our historic trains, but also explore Maldegem station, take a look inside our workshop, and truly experience the atmosphere of the past. In addition to our regular operating days, we organise various events throughout the year and warmly welcome schools and groups.

Our operations are run entirely by a dedicated team of volunteers. Together, we maintain the collection, welcome visitors, and organise train rides and activities. We’re always looking for extra helping hands – whether you’re technically skilled, enjoy working with people, or simply want to be part of a warm and welcoming team.

Whether you come for the engineering, the nostalgia, or simply a fun day out, you’re always welcome at Stoomtrein Maldegem-Eeklo.
